Hola amigos! Returning to Mexico after a couple of months in the States is always a bit hectic.
This year was no exception. I was rerouted three times on my trip back last week, but I finally made it to Merida. My bag wasn't quite so lucky. It was loaded with important papers, medicine, clothes etc. I was sure it was lost and was calling the airports in Detroit, Atlanta, Cancun, Mexico City and Merida with no luck. I was already calculating where I could buy the medicine that was lost and how I might possibly recoup the papers. I was ready to go on a shopping spree for new clothes. Gracias a Dios, the bag finally showed up. I don't know what the delivery man thought when I gave him a big hug and then kissed the bag!
I returned somewhat exhausted. I was on the road for close to ten weeks . That gave me the opportunity to see friends throughout the country . I am most grateful for the time I was able to spend with so many of you. Some know that I was also very concerned about my health. Something was happening with my eyes. I visited three ophthalmologists, had two brain scans and tried several remedies. No one seemed to know what to do. The brain scans did find a brain,in case anyone might have doubted that, but nothing that indicated a tumor which could affect the eyes. Finally I ended up at a special eye clinic at the University of Michigan. Nothing new there either, but a friend, who is also an optometrist suggested it might be allergy more than anything, so I tried some strong allergy medicine and it seems to be working.
I needed these eyes the last few days to make a new address book for my computer which crashed. Yes I had a backup - but no one told me it would not work with the new computer I had to buy. Fortunately I had a "paper copy". It has taken a few days to get the 800 addresses rewritten. I hope yours is accurate If not, let me know.
In the next few days you might also be receiving our Fall Newsletter. The newsletter features our new Centro Comunitario ( Community Center ) in Sierra. Monica, the director of the program there, and Pastora, our Administrator, worked hard all summer procuring the property , and then supervising the addition . I will include pictures of all of this on our website:www.mayamissions.com. I hope you will take the time to see the progress we are making thanks to your help. Last Sunday I attended a wonderful inauguration of the new facility. We had panuchos, salbutes, tamales, and even spaghetti. I'm including a picture of the grand opening. You will have to come down to experience the panuchos, salbutes and tamales.
Have a wonderful fall. Paz
